Places to Find Freelance Writing Jobs

There are several different ways to score freelance writing gigs.
  • Research writer's guidelines for a specific publication and send a pitch
  • Cold pitch blogs and publications
  • Cold pitch business owners about website copy
  • Apply for jobs on a freelance writing job board.
This post is about the 4th option. Here's a quick list of my favorite places to look for freelance jobs.

ProBlogger is my favorite. I'm not sure why, but the listings tend to be straightforward, and the site is easy to navigate. It's free to search and apply to jobs, and I have had good luck with the listings being legit.

I like this one, too, but I haven't been as successful here for some reason. It's similar to ProBlogger - easy to navigate and free to use.

Another similar job board.

Yes, they are all different sites. They just seem to be exactly the same.

The listings here tend to be for more long-term jobs than one-time writing gigs. They also have lots of job listings for areas other than writing. If you're looking for something with actual hours and are multi-talented, this is probably a great choice.

Most of the jobs here are more than a one-time gig and only a fraction of the jobs are remote, so it's not truly a freelance job board. However, there are some great listings here. The service is free, but you have to join.

This one is a little bit different. It combs other job boards as well as sites like Craig's List for freelance writing gigs.

FlexJobs is a great site with lots of remote work, but you have to pay to use it. Some writers like that because they believe serious clients are drawn to it. I'm not sure it's a great choice for a beginner, but you might give it a shot if you've got a little bit of experience.

This is another paid site, and it starts at around $40/month. I don't have any personal experience with this one, but I know that others have used it successfully. They offer courses to help you with your freelance writing career, so it could be worth a look.

That is my list of job boards for freelance writers. If I've missed some that you like, feel free to leave a comment. And good luck!
